General IPM Principles
Integrated Pest Management (IPM) principles can be applied to virtually every aspect of our lives. IPM programs emphasize PREVENTION, INSPECTION and the use of a wide variety of NON-CHEMICAL tools BEFORE pesticide applications are ever considered.
A common misconception is that pesticides are not used in IPM programs. IPM programs can be designed that exclude the use of pesticides, but well-designed IPM programs can also include the careful and selective use of pesticides WHEN necessary.

Scouting and Monitoring
Before you take action, it is important to correctly identify the pest in question, whether it is a plant disease, weed, or insect. You can send samples to the Plant Disease and Insect Diagnostic Lab (PDIDL) for identification. To do so, you must fill out a PDIDL sample form and submit good samples! Leaflet
