HISTORY OF ORGANIZATION
The Oklahoma Home Demonstration Agents; association was organized October 10, 1940. The organization meeting was held in the Annex of the college cafeteria during the annual Extension Workers Conference. The organization was an out-growth of several things:
· The County Agents of Oklahoma had a very successful state organization
· The Home Demonstration Agents knew there was a national association of Home Demonstration Agents.
· Home Demonstration Agents felt a need for a closer association with each other
· Some of the districts had an organization of its Agents.
At the time of the meeting, the Home Demonstration Agents, the four (4) district Agents, and the specialist attended the meeting. After much discussion, both pro and con, Miss Elizabeth Ward made the motion that was seconded by Miss Elizabeth Crane that the Oklahoma Home Demonstration Agents organize. The motion carried and the following officers were elected:
President..................... Miss Minnie Hamilton
Vice-President............. Miss Nina Craig
Secretary..................... Miss Eva Stokes
The president then appointed a committee to draw up a Constitution for the organization. This committee was composed of Miss Jewel Graham, chairman, Miss Nettie Coryell, Miss Elizabeth Ward, and Miss Neva Harveson. The group adjourned to meet October 18, when the proposed constitution would be presented. October 18, the Home Demonstration Agents’ Association met and adopted the proposed constitution. The constitution provided for a treasurer, and Miss Ruth Seney was elected. Other things provided for in the constitution:
1. Object of this Association shall be to provide a permanent state organization for Home Demonstration Agents of Oklahoma whereby professional standards for raised; fellowship among its members is promoted; a centralized means for the exchange of ideas and methods is provided; and a cooperation is given to the Oklahoma County Agents’ Association.
2. Membership. “Those eligible for membership shall be agents actively engaged in Home Demonstration work in counties.”
3. Executive Board shall consist of the four elective officers and a counselor from each of the four extension districts; each counselor to be elected by her own district.
CONSTITUTION
The Constitution has been amended and rewritten many times since the original.
