Zoom

Zoom Overview

What is Zoom? Zoom is a web conferencing tool!

Participants join a meeting by clicking on the link distributed by the host, by going to https://dasnr.zoom.us, clicking on "Join a Meeting" and entering the Meeting ID, or by calling the audio call-in number. Prerequisites:

  • Each meeting has a unique 9, 10, or 11-digit number called a Meeting ID that will be required to join a Zoom meeting.
  • If you are joining via telephone, you will need the teleconferencing number provided in the invite or from the host.

What do I need to participate?

To join a Zoom meeting or webinar, you will need:

  • An internet connected computer, laptop, tablet, or smartphone. Alternatively, you can join by calling the conference number.
  • Your meeting ID number.
  • If participating with a desktop, laptop, tablet, or smartphone, a headset or ear buds are suggested.

Once inside the Zoom meeting or webinar, the Zoom Menu Bar appears at the bottom of the Zoom window. (The bar disappears after a few seconds but reappears when the mouse is moved.)

Options for participants in Zoom Meetings: mute/unmute your audio and microphone, stop/start your video, open the chat window, and exit the meeting.

Zoom Webinars have different participant controls than a Zoom meeting. Inside a webinar, you (as a participant) can raise your hand to get the attention of a panelist or host, chat with panelists and hosts, and ask a question.

How can I host a Zoom meeting?

DASNR employees who are interested in hosting a Zoom meeting have two options for Zoom licensing:

Zoom Basic allows you to host an unlimited number of one-to-one meetings for unlimited time. If you host a meeting with a larger group – 3 to 50 participants – your meeting will automatically end after 40 minutes. Sign up for Zoom at https://dasnr.zoom.us. Basic Zoom Features: Free, No reservations required, Available 24/7, Call in number for audio is NOT toll free, Maximum of 50 participants and 40 minutes per meeting, Available on multiple platforms: Windows, Mac OS, iOS, Android, Personal and scheduled Meeting ID, Chat room, Video enable/disable, Screen Sharing, Virtual Whiteboard, Recording

Pro Zoom features include Basic Zoom features plus: Unlimited minutes, Up to 100 participants, Polling is available (for scheduled meetings). If you are interested in using a Pro license, please contact Dwayne Hunter.

Zoom Recordings

With your Pro license you can record your meetings. Two options are available: record to your local computer or record to the Zoom Cloud. If you choose "local computer", your recording will be stored on the device where you originate your meeting. If you choose to record to the Zoom Cloud, your meeting will be stored on a cloud-based Zoom resource. If you want to make your recording available to others, you should plan to move your recording to another resource such as YouTube or Microsoft Stream. For more information about Zoom recordings, see https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/sections/200208179-Recording

NOTE: DASNR's license is for a fixed amount of Zoom Cloud recording space. To keep this space available for all participants and minimize the possibility of an overage, recordings in this cloud space older than 120 days will be deleted unless special accommodations are made with DASNR IT. If you have no other option, please work with Craig Woods in Ag Communications Services.
