Forages 101: Plant Identification & Analysis

In-Service Description: This training will cover: in-field sampling methods for soil, standing forage, hay and silage; follow a sample through the SWAFL lab as it is analyzed and discover the different methodologies used at OSU for forage samples; learn about plant ID resources and tour the OSU herbarium.

Location: The In-service will be held on the OSU Stillwater campus. Registration and field portion will be held at the Agronomy Farm off of S Western Rd.
Educator End-Clients: Educators will use information to educate producers and train county office personnel.
In-Service Instructors: Brian Pugh, Dr. Bee Chim, Dr. Mark Fishbein, Kendall Henderson
First Objective: Materials covered will assist Educators with completing daily office tasks related to sample submission and identification requests.
Second Objective: Understand how proper forage sampling and testing can lead to accurate recommendations for livestock operations.
Third Objective: Make Educators aware of plant identification tools and how the OSU herbarium can assist them with proper ID of rare and less common plants.
