What is Extension?
Carter County Cooperative Extension Office is a part of the Oklahoma Cooperative Extension Service (OCES) and the Division of Agricultural Science and Natural Resources at Oklahoma State University. OCES is funded through a partnership between federal, state and county governments. Extension's purpose is to provide research-based information and education to help Oklahomans live better lives. While traditional college and vocational technical instructors teach skills for employment, Extension Educators teach skills for LIVING.

Why is Extension Important?
Extension is education for everyone. It plays a vital role in Carter County by providing practical information to assist people in improving their quality of life.  Extension Educators provide programs on the environment, economic development, family life, health, nutrition, and youth development. Simply, there is no better education network for these basic subjects that affect us all.

County Extension Offices
County Extension offices serve as the front door to Oklahoma State University and provide a direct link between the university and the people of the state. County educators have broad technical knowledge and often are the initial contact for may audiences served by OCES. County educators work closely with local advisory groups to plan educational programs for the county. They make a difference in the lives of many people by providing practical, down-to-earth information and education on many topics. They assess county needs, prepare and deliver to the public specific programs, provide educational leadership for adult and youth programs, evaluate program effectiveness, and respond to client requests for specific information and technical assistance. In addition, OCES county educators coordinate and implement 4-H youth development activities and recruit, train and develop lay leaders. County educators keep area and state specialists apprised of clientele needs and issues for possible future research.
