West District Oklahoma Cooperative Extension Service

Welcome to District 4-H!

The Oklahoma 4-H Program is full of opportunities for your family to work, plan and learn together.

4-H Youth Development in West Oklahoma begins at the local 4-H club level, or through special interest programs that are held in communities across the 17 counties of the Northwest quadrant of Oklahoma.  Families are important and enhance the 4-H experience.  Parents are encouraged to attend meetings with their children and support the volunteer organization, project or activity leader and staff as requested or appropriate.

More about 4-H
Youth Development events, activities, and programs bring youth and volunteers together at the county, district, state and national level as well.

What is a 4-H Club?
4-H Membership
Generally the 4-H club program is open to youth 9 to 19 years old.  A
non-competitive youth
development program for youth under 9 (5 to 8 years old) is available in some counties and communities.  Special interest short-term programs are often targeted to a more specific age group.

Learn By Doing
Since its inception, 4-H has been centered around youth being involved in learning by doing.  It usually involves hands-on activities and application of skills learned.

Volunteer Opportunities
Oklahoma 4-H is a volunteer based program.  Volunteers are certified and trained to extend the efforts of paid extension staff.  Adult volunteers are needed in your county to improve and expand the 4-H program.

4-H Youth Development Educators are available to work with groups and organizations beyond the 4-H program to assist as a resource for programming, training and partnerships in the area of youth and volunteer development as well as in various subject matter areas, which include Leadership and Community Development, various Agriculture subjects, and various Family and Consumer Science subjects.
